Taking the vocational <em>Gymnasium<\/em> in Baden-W\u00fcrt\u00adtem\u00adberg, Germany, as a significant example, this study ex\u00adamines the transformation of vocational schools empirically grounded and informed. Based on a broad range of doc\u00adumentary records as well as research find\u00adings, this book links the rise of vocational <em>Gymna\u00adsi\u00adum<\/em> with the long-term development of the German <em>Gym\u00adna\u00adsium<\/em>. Furthermore, the empirical survey clarifies the relation\u00adship between instit\u00adution\u00adal differentiation and students\u2019 educational path\u00adways, provid\u00ading particular insight into the current discussion on the German school sys\u00ad\u00adtem. Thus, in addition to dealing with the transformation of the vocational <em>Gymna\u00adsium<\/em>, this book also presents a com\u00adpre\u00adhen\u00adsive account of current views on
