Which concepts and theories are the most helpful in analyzing phenomena relevant to children\u2019s lives? The book reflects on this debate and discusses current challenges of major disciplines within the social studies of childhood.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The contributions approach the question of how childhood studies needs to, and might, develop in the future by focusing on: \u2022 the social and cultural character of childhood in relation to the generational order \u2013 change or continuity? \u2022 the social construction of childhood and children`s agency \u2013 critical challenges or critiques? \u2022 the role of new technologies in the cultural and social construction of childhood \u2013 revolution or intensification? \u2022 interdisciplinarity \u2013 new knowledge or just more knowledge? \u2022 synthesing social theory, social policy and empirical findings of social science research \u2013 conformism or expansion? \u2022 Participation and children\u2019s rights \u2013 technologies of the self or routes to (roots of) politicization? Finally, the book considers whether alternative conceptualisations of children and childhood are needed in late modernity\/late capitalism.
