Beschreibung

Why are youth policies necessary? What can theory and research in the field of youth studies bring to policy thinking, as well as to concrete policy and programme development for young people? International in scope, this book presents an in-depth and crosssector reflection on youth policy, in terms of theory, practice and emerging trends and issues affecting young people’s lives in Latin America, Europe, Asia and North America.

 On this basis, researchers from across the globe will analyze and discuss the contexts and strategies of youth policy development, the theories that underlie youth policy, as well as the models and impact of youth policy in different societies.

 They respond by:

  • Analyzing the impact of economic, social and cultural change on young people in different world regions, locations and social contexts;
  • Presenting and explaining theories of youth that underpin youth policy;
  • Discussing strategies for the development and implementation of youth policies in different world regions;
  • Evaluating the impact of current youth policies at regional, national and international levels and identifying gaps and misalignments in youth policy;
  • Analysing and discussing applied models of cross sectional policy and practice in the youth sector and describing policy development processes and ways in which professionals can influence policy; and
  • Discussing contributions of youth research to the development of evidence based youth policies in areas such as values, employment, participation, citizenship, migration, social exclusion and vulnerability.

The editors:

Marina Hahn-Bleibtreu

Former Deputy Head of Unit Youth Policy, BMWFJ, Austria

Prof. Marc Molgat

Director, School of Social Work, University of Ottawa, Canada

Target groups: Policy Makers, youth workers, social workers, youth researchers and students of social work and social sciences at graduate and post-graduate levels
