Beschreibung

Without sustainability and intergenerational justice, today’s children will no longer have the opportunity to shape their lives in the same way as their parents. Educational equity, poverty reduction, children’s health and safety, gender equality and climate protection are crucial components of sustainable and intergenerational justice policies. The basic assumption of this book is that the needs of today’s generation of children are not being taken into account in these policy areas, with the result that existing inequalities and injustices will increase.

Between 2013 and 2030, it is expected that the number of children under the age of 15 in Germany will increase by 2 million. This presents challenges that cannot be solved by additional economic resources alone. This book addresses these challenges in the context of the six UN Sustainable Development Goals that are most important for children: overcoming child poverty; improving children’s health; enabling children to fulfil their potential through quality education; ensuring children’s safety; promoting gender equality; and creating child-friendly living environments in local communities. Each chapter begins with a brief introduction to the sustainability goals as interpreted by UNICEF, the UN Children’s Fund. The ‚Kidsdata‘ database that accompanies the book contains transparent, verifiable original sources with key indicators on the respective topics.
