Beschreibung

This book explores how inclusivity, particularly gender equality and intersectional perspectives, can be meaningfully embedded in research and innovation policies and practices across Europe. It highlights strategies and action plans to improve governance, institutional culture, and policy implementation in order to enhance the societal impact of excellence in research.

Since 2012, gender equality in research has been a priority of the European Research Area (ERA), with the European Commission outlining three main objectives: equality in careers, balanced decision-making, and integrating gender perspectives into research content. While progress has been made in the first two areas, the integration of gender dimensions into research and innovation content remains underdeveloped. In addition, efforts to embed intersectional perspectives into research policy and practice, considering not only gender but also dimensions such as disability, age, and economic vulnerability, as well as the impact of institutional culture and policy on fostering inclusive research, are not yet well understood. Despite advances in sex and gender analysis, prioritising inclusivity throughout the research and innovation (R&I) process is still needed. This collection addresses these shortcomings by exploring inclusive research and innovation across multiple layersโ€”governance, institutional frameworks, and practical application. It examines the challenges organisations face in promoting inclusion and considers the broader societal effects of inclusivity within R&I ecosystems. By showcasing strategies to embed equality and inclusiveness across all research stages, it offers essential insights to strengthen inclusivity in European research initiatives.
